Special Election at Tonight's General June NLNA Meeting

 From the NLNA Election Committee:The NLNA will hold an interim election to fill two vacant board seats, at tonight's General Membership Meeting (Thursday, June 27, 2013), at the Northern Liberties Community Center.From 7:15 to 7:30pm, each candidate will speak and take any questions. Voting will take place between 7:30 and 8:00. The Election Committee will tally the votes and present them to NLNA President Matt Ruben, who will announce them.

In order to vote, you must be 18 or older and live in or own or operate a business in Northern Liberties. You also must be registered to vote in NLNA elections. If you have voted in the past few years you are registered. If you are new to Northern Liberties, or have not voted in elections since before 2006, you will need to register. Please bring proof of residency such as your driver's license or a utility bill.There is no absentee or on-line voting. Their statements:Monika Kreidie: My name is Monika Kreidie and I am running for the Board of the NLNA because I LOVE THIS COMMUNITY! I feel that Northern Liberties is a true urban mecca, a community that is made up all sorts of people with different backgrounds, but with the same goal -- making our neighborhood the premier place to live in Philadelphia. My family moved to NL in December 2001 and we have reaped the benefits of so many people who have put in so much time and energy into making this mecca. Our neighborhood has beautiful parks, a Community Center, family fun activities, nice houses and great shops and restaurants all because dedicated volunteers and members of NLNA. Now, that my kids are older and don't need as much of my attention, I feel that it is my time to give back by being a part of the NLNA Board and volunteering my time to continue the mission of the organization.Sharon Richman: This month my husband and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary as residents of Northern Liberties and it was a celebration because we are happily settled into our life in Philadelphia after living in the suburbs of upstate New York for 40 years. Before retiring, I held a management position in a state agency where I honed my organizational and project management skills. Since coming to Northern Liberties, I have served on the Election Committee and am currently on the New Membership Committee, as well as the Zoning Committee where I am the secretary. As a newcomer to the neighborhood I can bring a new perspective to the issues we face in the changing dynamics of where we live. I have the time to devote to Board activities and would be honored to represent the interests of all our neighbors. —
