Green City, Clean Waters

The Northern Liberties Recreation Center (Cement Park) has been selected by the Philadelphia Water Department for its Green City, Clean Waters stormwater management project to help soak up rain and beautifythe property.

However, the current plan only involves the path, seating and tree wells in the southeast corner of the park. Further improvements (i.e. the basketball court surface) are not planned at this time, and need neighborhood support in order to happen.

Propsed Porous Surface with New Plantings

Please join the Northern Liberties Neighborhoods Association, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and the Philadelphia Water Department for a community meeting to discuss the upcoming project.
Your input is important to make this project a success.
Green City, Clean Waters is Philadelphia’s innovative program to clean our rivers and streams. The Philadelphia Water Department uses specially designed green tools to filter and store water through natural processes. These green tools, which often use plants and trees, help stormwater (rain or melting snow) soak into the ground. They are a beautiful and cost effective solution to reduce pollution. This approach will result in greener communities and cleaner rivers that everyone can enjoy
