On Illegal Towing...

From Sergeant Masse of the 26th Police District:

I continue to receive complaints for residents having their cars towed illegally.  In addition to calling 911, I'm asking residents to file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office:
www.attorneygeneral.gov/submit-a-complaint/

To contact the AG's office, call 800-441-2555 Specify the tow company, logo on their trucks, business location and where you retrieved your vehicle from.

Complaints can be for any tow company that you feel you were taken advantage of or defrauded.  As much information you can provide is important (dates, times, locations, photos, tow receipt, ATM receipt, bank receipt, credit card receipt, police report, etc).
Some things they're looking for but not limited to are:

  • Cash only transaction - consumer being told the credit card machine is down and you have to use the ATM
  • Drop & Pays - you see your car hooked and the driver demands the full tow amount plus storage fee up up-front but the car has not been towed
  • Your car was towed but you were not blocking a driveway or parked in a private parking lot

Make a police report if any of the above mentioned issues occurred!
