Meet the New Director at NLArts!

Welcome Madeline Charne, NLArts Director

Madeline Charne is director, dramaturg and teaching artist with a lifelong love of storytelling. She obtained her MFA from the Yale School of Drama in 2020 and is currently working on completing a doctorate out of the same program. Although she loves her research and time spent contemplating art, her true passion lies in teaching and in developing education programs and original curricula and she is grateful to have had the chance to exercise that passion through theaters and education institutions all over Philadelphia and beyond.

Madeline has over a decade of experience teaching art and storytelling to students of all ages, from 3-93, including students on the autism spectrum and those who have particular learning needs. Madeline has also completed multiple trainings on trauma awareness and trauma informed teaching and brings that compassion and knowledge into all of her classrooms, catering to the specific needs of each and every student. In addition to her time teaching, Madeline is an active and practicing dramaturg, working with playwrights and television writers in Philadelphia, New York City, and LA to help them develop their work and tell the best version of their story.
