Upcoming Changes to the Liberty Lands Booking Policy
Liberty Lands is a community-owned park in Northern Liberties run by volunteers of the Northern Liberties Neighbors Association. Historically, a wide variety of groups have reserved the park for events without much oversight. This approach has allowed Liberty Lands to be a space for all sorts of quirky and fun things over the years.
On Sunday, October 6 a traveling theater troupe called Bread & Puppet reserved Liberty Lands. An incident occurred prior to their performance that left us unable to ensure the safety of folks at the park, and we made the decision to cancel it. This decision was not made lightly.
As stewards of Liberty Lands, our goal is to provide a community space that is safe, inclusive and welcoming to all of our neighbors. We did not do our due diligence to ensure this event met that standard. We take responsibility for this and we are taking steps to ensure that future events do. In the interim, we will be imposing a temporary moratorium on outside performances and events. We appreciate your patience as we work to implement an effective and fair policy.
If you would like to help draft this policy, we invite you to attend the Liberty Lands Committee meeting on Thursday, November 14th at 7pm at the NLNA Community Center. Fall Fest, our final Music in the Park event, Houndoween and the Parade of Spirits will continue as scheduled. Parties can be scheduled as usual.
