Construction Resumes: What's Allowed - and What's Not

The City has issued rules limiting the resumption of construction, starting today.

Please call 311 (or file an online complaint) to report violations of normal rules or these new restrictions. The City's enforcement isn't perfect - but Imperfect enforcement is much better than no enforcement - please, make the call and note the case number.

Key Rules:

  • Limited Hours: 7AM-5PM Mon-Fri. No evenings, no weekends (except for emergency repairs).
    -
  • No underpinning, no demolition of an attached structure, no work that requires supporting a party wall.
    -
  • No work in any occupied dwelling, including residential homes, condo/apt units, and shared common areas in occupied apt/condo buildings. Emergency repairs are permitted.
    -
  • Max 4 workers at a time in 1 and 2-family residences, and in other buildings 2,000 square feet or smaller. For those other buildings, one additional worker allowed for every additional 500 sq ft of building size.
    -
  • Until further notice, no new permits for work that requires a zoning variance. By-right aka "over the counter" permits are being issued, via the new online eClipse permitting system.
