Compost Your Leaves This Fall – November 10 thru December 19

Leaves in bagsBag your leaves this fall and help beautify our City. Be a part of this year’s Bagged Leaf and Recycling Program, get your friends, family and neighbors to join in, as well. This united effort helps clear our streets of leaves and creates a second life for the collected material through composting. Taking part in this project (and inspiring others to do so) is a great way to help make Philadelphia the cleanest and greenest City in America!During this six-week program, we will collect and compost the leaves you bag to fertilize gardens and nourish trees. Fallen leaves shouldn’t go to waste or be left to litter our streets. Let’s work together to make this Bagged Leaf and Recycling Program another victory for recycling and our UnLitter Us campaign! For questions visit PhiladelphiaStreets.com/leaves or call 311.Remember these guidelines for bagged leaf collection:

  • Leaves will ONLY be collected in biodegradable paper bags
  • Set leaf bags curbside on your trash collection day
  • Leaves in plastic trash bags will be collected as trash, not recycling
  • DO NOT mix trash or recyclables with bagged leaves
  • Use as many bags as needed, maximum weight per bag is 40 lbs.
  • Bags may be purchased at most hardware or home improvement stores. The Streets Department does NOT provide biodegradable bags.
  • No collection will occur on a City holiday
  • NO mechanical leaf collection will be offered.
