Closure of 2nd St at Germantown...

Here's what we know so far:

PWD wants to fully implement detours and test that they are working prior to shutting the major artery. When the street is shut and the contractor begins digging, the sidewalks on both the east and west sides of that intersection will be rendered impassable for a time (click on diagram at right). The pedestrian detour will be along Germantown-American with access to 2nd Street via George and Wildey.A raised, striped pedestrian crossing will be paved to safely get people from the east side of American to the frontage of the Becker building on the west.Parking will be eliminated along American and jersey barriers will be set to create a cattle chute to George Street. (Click on drawing below to see a 2-page pdf)Street reversal striping and signage has begun. The temporary lights on Girard are currently flashing, but will be set to GRY when the closure begins.More parking may be removed as needed to address truck turning radiiPolice will be enforcing lane and sidewalk closures, equipment placement, etc.The phone number to call when vehicles are disregarding no-parking and impacting pedestrian or vehicular access is (215) 683-9773._
