May 15, 2014Located diagonally across the streetfrom Standard Tap, and owned byTower Investments, this buildinghas been awaiting demolition forsome time. Fortunately, constructionfencing was in place around thestructure.Here's what we know:

• No one was hurt.
• Much of the roof of the three story brick-and-steel building fell in late this afternoon (Wed, May 14, 2014)
• Police & Fire Dept. blocked off Poplar between American and 2nd It will remain blocked off at least until the weekend.
• Structural engineer says building is NOT in danger of imminent collapse tonight.
• Structural engineer also says Friday’s predicted heavy storm could pose a danger.
• Tower Investments, owner of the property, has a demolition crew coming out tomorrow (Thu, May 15) to take down as much of the building as possible. They will put holes in any remaining above-ground floors to reduce storm water collecting on upper floors (which would be the main collapse risk)
• Tower says demo was slated to begin tomorrow. Near neighbors and businesses confirm construction fencing went up around the building recently, and that a demolition contractor had visited the site within the last several days.
